Apple became the second company in the world whose market capitalization exceeded $5 trillion during trading.

Apple is currently the most valuable company in the S&P 500 index, reports Bloomberg. During trading, Apple’s shares rose by 1.8%, to $342.89 per share. This allowed the company’s market capitalization to exceed the $5 trillion mark for the first time. Later, the shares gave up some of the gains, and capitalization fell below that level again. In order to finish the trading session with a market value above $5 trillion, the company’s shares would have to close at no less than $340.43.

According to the publication, the first company to reach a market capitalization above $5 trillion was NVIDIA. In May this year, its value at the close of trading reached a record $5.7 trillion. Since then, the company has lost about $1 trillion in market value.

After NVIDIA’s decline in capitalization, Apple is now the largest company in the S&P 500 index. Recall that Apple is preparing updates for its entire Mac lineup. The company plans to unveil new models of MacBook, iMac, Mac mini, and Mac Studio already in the fall of 2026 and throughout the following year.

The company aims to capitalize on the rising demand for powerful computers driven by the development of artificial intelligence.
