ArtMaster raised €800,000 from Purple Ventures and Gi21 to revolutionise music education

ArtMaster, a Czech startup specializing in music education, has successfully closed its third round of funding of more than €800,000. Purple Ventures, who are leading the round, and Gi21 have newly joined the ambitious project with this round.

The funds will be used to further develop the revolutionary Artie app, which uses artificial intelligence to provide personalized piano lessons and an interactive experience like lessons with a real teacher.

“Traditional one-on-one lessons are often expensive – in the US they cost between $60 and $100 per hour – or unavailable due to a lack of tutors. In contrast, online video courses are affordable but lack feedback and personalization. Our goal is to remove these barriers and make music education accessible to people around the world. Thanks to AI, we can offer affordable tuition that gives each student individual feedback and adapts to their needs,” says Radim Vysoký, co-founder of ArtMaster.

Artie differentiates itself from traditional learning apps by adapting to user preferences in real time and creating a completely tailored curriculum for everyone. It can consider the level of the learner, their favourite genres and bands, communication style but also the demands it places on the user. What’s more, it can constantly change with the student’s expectations. The founders of ArtMaster were inspired by a real live teacher, who also often behaves in a very human and empathetic way and approaches everyone a little differently.

“We are lifelong musicians and know how crucial music is in personal development. We created Artie so that everyone can learn to play their favourite instrument in a way that is natural, intuitive and fun. In the first phase we are focusing on teaching piano, but we plan to add other musical instruments in the future,” says Michal Novák, co-founder of ArtMaster.

ArtMaster has previously received the backing of angel investors, including Robert Kyncl, CEO of global giant Warner Music Group, and Czech composer and key figure in the story of the phenomenal success of VR hit Beat Saber, Jaroslav Beck. 

The Artie app is scheduled to launch this July and will initially be available only in English and only for the iOS operating system. Other platforms and languages are planned for the following period. “Artmaster’s founders convinced us with their passion and desire to change how people learn to play a musical instrument. I’m a self-taught piano player myself and I’m looking forward to improving my playing thanks to Artie. Considering what the guys and their team have accomplished in just two months, I can’t wait for the final version, which they plan to launch in the summer. We believe that from an investment point of view it will be a global success,” says Jan Davídek, partner at Purple Ventures.

Damir Špoljaric, managing partner of Gi21 investment company adds: “Artie by ArtMaster brings to the general public a simple and personalised way to learn to play a musical instrument, develop your skills and overcome initial shyness – all without having to find a tutor. This is a great example of the practical application of artificial intelligence. ArtMaster’s founders are people originally from the music industry, with a relationship to technology and a great vision.”

ArtMaster was founded by music enthusiasts who have long been committed to making music education accessible to the public. In addition to digital projects, the company also runs a traditional music school in Prague and offers a wide range of pre-recorded video courses focused on learning to play various musical instruments as well as other artistic activities such as drawing and dance.

The founders also place a strong emphasis on social responsibility, providing free classes to those in need and working with non-profit organizations to make music education more accessible to those who do not have easy access to it.
