Tech Horizons is joining NVD at a stage when the company has completed its first funding round and is now focused on accelerating development, scaling production, and integrating its solutions into allied defence architectures.
The investment comes as Western militaries are racing to adapt to the changing nature of modern warfare, shaped increasingly by low-cost drones, swarm tactics and loitering munitions. The war in Ukraine and other modern conflicts have shown how inexpensive aerial threats can shift the balance of power. For conventional air defence, this creates a fundamental economic challenge: using missiles that cost many times more than the targets they destroy is not sustainable over time.
That is the capability gap NVD is seeking to close. Working with Canada’s Department of National Defence, the company is developing a purpose-built solution to protect troops, infrastructure, and critical assets from drones and other aerial threats at a significantly lower cost than conventional air defence systems.
NVD’s flagship product, CM-70 SPEAR, is a short-range air defence system designed to intercept and neutralize small and medium-sized drones – from commercially available UAVs and FPV drones to larger tactical unmanned systems and loitering munitions such as Shahed- and Lancet-type threats. The system is purpose-built for scenarios in which an adversary deploys large numbers of low-cost aerial threats at once. It is designed for scalable production and rapid replenishment in the field during high-intensity operations.
CM-70 SPEAR is intended to operate as part of a layered air defence architecture. It can be deployed from mobile launchers, vehicles, unmanned ground, maritime, and airborne platforms. The CM-70 missile itself is small, fast and built for the cost realities of the modern battlefield. Weighing just two kilograms, it can reach speeds of 1,000 km/h after launch and uses a combination of laser guidance and artificial intelligence to reach its target. This allows it to engage fast and agile drones with high precision at a fraction of the cost of traditional interceptors.
"North Vector Dynamics stood out to us because of the depth of its founding team. Scientists who have spent years operating at the frontier of hard engineering, from nuclear reactors to hypersonic technologies. We see NVD as a strong potential partner for Europe: the technologies they are developing alongside the Canadian government are directly relevant to European security and to the wider alliance. Cost-effective, layered air defence against Shahed-class threats and hypersonic weapons remains an unsolved problem, and we are proud to be joining NVD as they help solve it."

One of the system’s key strengths is its modular design. It can be deployed as a standalone solution or integrated into existing sensor and command-and-control architectures. Developed with support from the Canadian government, its efficiency could make it a standard capability for NATO armed forces and other allied militaries.
For Tech Horizons, the investment in NVD represents a bet on a broader technology platform with the potential to address a wide range of air defence needs over time. NVD’s ambitions go beyond counter-drone defence: the company plans to develop similarly effective solutions against missiles and hypersonic weapons. That combination of near-term relevance and long-term platform potential was one of the key factors behind Tech Horizons’ decision to invest.
“We are excited to partner with Tech Horizons because their team combines world-class industrial and defence technology expertise with strategic networks that span key markets. As North Vector Dynamics scales to address the urgent counter-UAS capability gap facing Canada and our allies, Tech Horizons’ support will accelerate our growth during a critical period of opportunity for our business. This partnership reflects a shared conviction that building resilient defence capability at speed is essential to the security of Canada, other NATO countries, and other allied nations.”
