France-based ArcSpace, which has developed an autonomous welding tool for use in space, has just closed a €2 billion round. Leading the pack is Czechia’s DEPO Ventures, which is working alongside ArcSpace’s angel investment syndicate.
The newly raised capital will support ArcSpace’s next stage of growth, primarily through team expansion, qualification of its flight hardware, and preparations for its first demonstration mission planned for 2027. The company aims to bring its product to market by 2028.
So far, ArcSpace has established collaborations with institutional partners, including the French space agency (CNES), the European Space Agency (ESA), and the European Defence Fund (EDF), securing it a place in the growing European space and defense industries.
The aim of ArcSpace is to make equipment more durable. “The space industry has traditionally operated on a one-time-use model. At ArcSpace, we believe that the ability to manufacture, repair, and modify equipment directly in orbit is the only way to build a sustainable and secure space economy,” says Guillaume Mohara, CEO and co-founder of ArcSpace.
Petr Šíma, partner at DEPO Ventures, echoes this sentiment: “ArcSpace offers a breakthrough solution capable of repairing satellites that were never intended to be serviced. This capability significantly reduces risk and strengthens the resilience of critical infrastructure.”
This isn’t the first time that DEPO has made a long-term investment in deep tech; previously, the fund invested in quantum computing and AI-powered labor infrastructure.
