Ondřej Bartoš, founder of Credo Ventures, became the first investor not only from the Czech Republic, but also from Central and Eastern Europe as a whole, to make it onto the prestigious Midas List Europe 2024. The American Forbes ranking recognizes the best venture capital investors from Europe and the Middle East.

Bartoš made the list thanks to a key investment in UiPath, which helps corporations work more efficiently by automating routine human tasks with algorithms. Its initial public offering raised a staggering $35 billion, making it the largest IPO of a technology company in European history.

Credo Ventures, which Bartoš co-founded in 2009, manages $270 million across four funds. Successful startups it has backed include Productboard and Pricefx“Amazing companies can be built anywhere,” said Bartoš, adding that he believes in the potential of Central and Eastern Europe to create world-class startups.

Ondřej Bartoš has become not only an inspiration for venture capitalists and entrepreneurs in Central Europe, but also a symbol of the region’s growing importance on the global technology scene. The Midas List, created by the American Forbes and TrueBridge Capital Partners, highlights investors who have backed startups with a valuation of over two hundred million dollars or contributed to their significant IPO or acquisitions.

In 2023, Czech Jan Hammer also made the list. However, he worked at the British fund Index Ventures.

Ukrainian defensetech is a very different kind of beast of what we see in the rest of Europe. One great example of how different is Himera, a manufacturer of secure communication systems that has gone beyond supplying the Ukrainian military to making deals with NATO countries. I sat down with Himera CEO Misha Rudominski to talk about his experience building a company in a country at war.
